Schei neighbourhood

Brașov started out as a Saxon settlement on the merchant road from East to West.

During the first centuries of city life Romanians were not allowed to own property within the city walls and were only allowed acces through one of the gates.

So they slowly started building and settling around that gate, the result of those decades of expansion being the Old Schei Neighbourhood, stretching high into the mountain, a cluster of cobble stone streets and chaotic urban development.

Solomon’s Rocks

King Solomon holds a very special place in the history of Brașov and this place is at the heart of his legend.

Story has it that King Solomon of Hungary was running though the forest and his horse tripped and he fell into the abyss. And where he fell, the mountain split in two creating the rock formations now known as Solomon’s Rocks.

While he fell, his crown also did, landing at the root of a tree that grew though it – which is the emblem of the city to this day and an explanation for the german name of Kronstadt.

Picturesque forest road

This is why you chose this tour! An almost efortless trip up the mountain on a shaded forest road with woods and flowers as far as the eye can see. Sometimes, the eye also sees deer or squirrels.

Forty minutes of calm and quiet, with leaves cracking under your wheel and the sun breaking into a million rays as it enters the woods.

Poiana Brașov

The biggest and most famous ski resort in Romania, Poiana Brașov is buzzing with life all year round.

Since the first ski competition was organized here in 1908 it has been constantly developing into an all season active travel space, catering to all sports and levels of fitness.

You’ll see it unravel before your eyes in the perfect little glade where we’ll also take a break before heading back down to the city.
